About BabySense©

BabySense is a newly developed community-based education program for new parents and babies. The program is designed to be taught by Maternal Child Health Nurses and Childbirth Educators as part of a community hospital or health department's Women's Health curriculum.

The postpartum family is in tremendous need of support and education beyond the initial newborn period. The BabySense program directly fills the need for education and social support for new families. In addition, it gives the nurse educator an ongoing opportunity for contact, assessment and intervention with our new parents and infants throughout the first year of the infant's life.

Parents love this program! BabySense has been successfully implemented in a community hospital in Virginia, and is now available for use in hospitals, health departments, and communities across the nation.

Key components of BabySense include:

  • Increasing knowledge and support for new mothers and infants during the first year of life
  • Promoting healthy attachment
  • Hands-on interactive classes
  • Sensorial and developmental learning and playtime
